Duration: 2 hrs | Distance: 388 km / 241 mi
If you are departing Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada, take the International Bridge to the USA. Be sure you have all your identification documents handy and once you clear Customs simply head south on I-75 to Highway 28 west. Suppose you’re departing from Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan just hop on I-75. Be sure to check out the Sault Locks on the Michigan side, as it is quite a sight to see a massive freighter work its way through the lock system. After only a few minutes on Highway 28, head north to the Lake Superior Shoreline on Highway 221.
Be sure to stop at the Point Iroquois Lighthouse, the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum and Tahquamenon Falls State Park. A highlight of today is the newly surfaced road from Grand Marais to Munising. It is quickly becoming a favourite of all riders. Be sure to allow enough time to take in a late boat cruise to see the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore out of Munising.
