Duluth MN to Thunder Bay ON
Duration: 3 hr 32 min | Distance: 306 km / 190 mi
Today’s ride takes you along the scenic Highway 61 all the way into Canada en route to Thunder Bay. The first stop after leaving Duluth will be the small port community of Two Harbors. Be sure to take the old Highway 61 (Scenic Drive) out of the city. Here you can get an up-close view of the massive ore dumps as train cars unload into waiting ships.
The next stop just up the road is the Split Rock Lighthouse which gives you easy access to the shoreline and historic light. Park the bikes and stretch your legs with a stroll around this scenic little town. Be sure to fuel up and get some famous beef jerky at Ryden’s Border Store before crossing the border into Canada.
Have your passports handy as you cross the border and don’t forget to adjust your watch an hour as you cross into a new time zone. Continue on Highway 61 into Thunder Bay. Once you’re checked into your accommodation, if you’re up for some exploring, be sure to tour to Kakabeka Falls and the other Thunder Bay scenic lookouts (take the Thunder Bay and Scenic Lookout Tour).
